A touching story from Homestead Farm

Homestead Farm Filly called Possum

Within harness racing, there are lots of wonderful stories to come out of the industry – here is one of them.

A few weeks back staff member Rachel Benns (long time part of the Homestead Farm family) was so emotionally distressed when her 15 year old cat by the name of “Possum” which had been at the farm since a tiny kitten, had to be put down.

Work never stops at a harness establishment and later that evening, Rachael still under duress foaled down an unnamed surrogate mare carrying a half sister to Im Smouldering (Bettors Delight-Red Hot Rita) being a full sister to Red Hot Major (Art Major-Red Hot Rita). The result was a filly which to Rachel’s delight, was immediately given the name of “Possum”.

It had been an awful day for Rachel but work comes first and with a happy ending, no doubt this foal will be given a little more attention than the other new arrivals at the property.

It will be interesting to see what name John & Christine Yeomans select for the filly – who knows it could be Possum !
