The first of the Victorian Harness Racing Club Bonus meetings for the season which will continue all through the year kicked off at Boort on Sunday March 6 with members pleased to receive their bonus benefit.

Registered owners and trainers each receive a bonus whenever a horse wins, plus you receive all the benefits the club has to offer.

The Councillor Neil Beattie & Family/VHRC Boort Pacing Cup over 2250 metres going the way of

Millionaire NSW owners Emilio & Mary Rosati’s 4Y0 Peak-Lady J gelding Patriot Stride was successful in the Robert CouttsTribute/VHRC- Aldebaran Park Benefiting Our Members Trotters Handicap over 2250 metres. Racing under banner of E & M Stride, Patriot Stride trained at Lemnos by Russell Jack and driven by Leigh Sutton was given plenty of time to find his rhythm from 20 metres as Surprise To Me (barrier two) led. Momentarily one/one mid-race as Floating Mountain (barrier three) occupied the ‘death-seat’, Patriot Stride went forward to park after Floating Mountain was eased to be three back the markers for a short time. Taking care of the leader before the home turn with Floating Mountain after trailing for the last lap giving chase. Patriot Stride despite racing roughly scored by a neck over Floating Mountain in a mile rate of 2-06.2. Jack Of The Green after trailing the leader was third 5.9 metres back.

The Rosati’s have raced numerous horses over the years in both NSW and Victoria winning a plethora of Group 1 races along the way.

Rusty Jack also received the trainers bonus.


Eight year old McArdle-Sheezalittlebeauty gelding Clem McArdle trained by Trish McVeigh at Milloo and raced by the McVeigh family were also bonus winners after taking the Patrick O’Dwyer Tribute/VHRC Pace over 1900 metres. Starting solo on the second line, Clem McArdle (Jack Laugher) at start 88 enjoyed a cosy one/one passage trailing Pirates Of Zanzibar (gate three) as Star Shine led from gate two. Easing three wide on the final bend, Clem McArdle drew clear over the concluding stages to score by 3 metres from a game Pirates Of Zanzibar. Miss Tyler was third 3.1 metres back after trailing the winner all the way. The mile rate 2-00.3.
